The trolley problem is a thought experiment in moral philosophy, but has begun to have practical consequences as autonomous vehicles become common. Note that the word 'trolley' in the title is used to descibe a small train in some countries. The trrain is imagiend to be out of control and about to hit a group of (say five) people. However, tere is a set of pounts that you can control which will send the train down a sidetrack avoiding the people. Unfortunately there is another person on that track. You have to decide whether to sacrifice this person to save the greater number on the mainline.
